home again!

So due to how young my little ones are I still get away with a lot of slacking at christmas. For example: we woke up christmas morning (6:30 as usual - i know its painful) and had a leisurely breakfast and afterward I suggested to Melia we should open some presents which she was okay with as long as she got to wear her "dance class dress". Okay fine whatever - why should christmas be different than every other day? Kyan as you can see was very excited!

untill we helped him open his stocking - then life was wayyyyyyyy better!

I know - who puts a banana in a kids stocking? This is one little boy who would be much more excited about the banana then some candy - yes im sure he will grow out of it!
So i convinced Melia to open a present (she got to open Kyan's too since he was good with his banana). This was kinda for both of them and was really the highlight of christmas. Melia would push the button and then dance to the music and Kyan would laugh and then she would do it again and you would be surprised how long this could go on. She was then done opening presents and asked if she could go jump on the trampoline down stairs. I asked her if she wanted to open more presents and she said "maybe later". I suspect she will also grow out of that =) After we convinced her to open a couple more she got right into it and wanted to open presents every day for the rest of the week. I told her to wait for her birthday =). She didn't get it.

Vance had himself a lovely redneck chirstmas. =) He had to have a camo one too which cost like a hundred dollars more - good thing it was funded by his "Vance needs a shotgun" bonus. Yes his boss is traumatized he doesnt have a shotgun.

I got some lovely scrapbooking toys and can't imagine how i will ever use everything that i now have but you still want to buy more!! The crazy thing i got of course was a Wii from my little brother. Yeah my family draws names so my little brother living on his own now apparently has some money to share and actually managed to get his hands on a Wii at chirstmas time. It only came with one remote of course which is driving Vance crazy becasue he has not been able to buy another one anywhere in drum or here. All OUT! Maybe we should enlist Jason - see if he has the same luck with remotes as the actual systems?!
We covered some ground this chirstmas as usual but it was fun to see both families. It really is convenient that everyone lives so close. My little sister was up from california and since my brother is home from his mission we actually had my whole family together again for the first time in a couple years.

So we took Melia out skating for the first time today and she thought it was awesome. Quite the workout for dad and mom of course - where does one steal a cone for the kid to skate with exactly? Kyan very conveniently slept in the van so we had a great time playing outside without worrying about the poor little man freezing to death. He is having a great time pulling himself along now though. Now he is opening cupboards and going up and down the hallway. He really wants to go down the stairs though so i have to been very concious of the baby gate. The happiness is great!

Im a Winner!!

Okay so totally fun party at Stephanie's last night and I definately managed to snag some sweets presents! Now I opened a couple gifts due to thieving and such - all were awesome (the simmons was sketchy but im sure Melia would have thought it was hilarious) but I have to say that KAthy's genius monkey she made out of out of a pair of socks was awesome, I never even got to hold the mistletoe. Now i promptly lost my treasure and it was stolen a couple times BUT in the end after Mr. Right put his foot down about going right out again i got my monkey back!! Yes that made perfect sense =). I will have to post a picture of it another day though because Melia is currently sleeping with it (LOVES IT) and I dont mess with a sleeping kid! Obviously I was on a roll at this point so Joanne really shouldnt feel that probability was against her still but when our lovely Tessa pulled my name out (yess i gave her a cookie later) it was clearly meant to be that I should score Stephanie's gorgeous creations. The sad part is that irregardless of how amazing I am - my pictures dont generally show it - and I feel a little guilty that her sweet skill is not showcased as well as it should be but I will therefore give you two pictures to oogle over =) Oh and by the way - I got TWO he he he.

hilarious

Okay so due to Kristen's suggestion I wandered over to pioneer womans website and of course absolutely LOVED her black heels to tractor wheels real life romance story - now i am caught up the rest of her fans waiting for each new posting. I then was looking a a couple old posts and found this one - i laughed so hard i cried. My favorite part is what she found herself saying to her daughter!!! "Dont loose your poop" and so forth... he he he. you must read it!!!!!!!! I hope this link works.

candy train

Now I was feeling sorry for myself since I dont actually remember the last time I did a gingerbread house. Obviously my fault so I decided to recitify the gross neglect of myself. Oh and i thought Melia would enjoy it =) so I frivolously spent some money and bought a train kit (she really wanted the train instead of the house - so whatever, same idea). She was mildly interested becasue mom was excited until i opened the box and revealed the candy and icing. I then magically transformed into her favorite mom ever!!!!!!!!! Im quite sure that smile cancels out all my yelling for the day in the big book.

Now my other fun project involved seeking a fun way to share chocolates and thus the little bags I was excited about the other day. Now I will share another fascinating insight into the way Randa thinks - are you excited? hanging on the edge of your seat? good I thought so. As I am making my fun bags each one becomes personalized for the said recipient.
bold and beautiful for Joanne

bright and sweet for Stephanie

brown and orange for Nancy for the makeup colors we dont wear
(she needed a small one since she and her family don't really do chocolate)

night scene for Kathy since she gets to stay up all night with Brant
pink for Kimara because I always wear pink when I need a boost and she always lifts me up and black because she always looks classy

yellow and black for Larissa because with her amazing vocabulary she is always the brightest crayon in the box

this is my lovely sister's creation and I just knew it was for the sweet woman I visit who is also named Kathy =)

Now if you are curious if you will ever see these chocolate presents I really did intend to deliver them today but my road just barely got plowed so I suspect the rest of the town is insane. If there is anyone I have neglected feel free to put in a request and i will try to accomodate you! I also want to put out three cheers for Tyler M who just came by and cleared our knee high (sometimes thigh high) drift on our side walk with his lovely snow blower. Im sure it will make Vance's day to not have to do that when he gets home tonight! The poor boy hasn't had a single day off in like six weeks. He is looking a little ragged at this point and is probably on the inactive list at church =). Well its just over a week now till he gets some time off so thats good - im ready for a break!

tis the season!

Its that lovely time again!! Chocolates, chocolates and more chocolates and Im not done yet!

Now I would like to share with you a charming little insight into my childhood. Every year we made chocolates - lots of chocolates. We gave them out as teacher gifts and to friends (we were very popular at christmas time) and ate plenty ourselves. I always remember my aunt (married name Jarvis)making LOTS of chocolates though. To help with perspective, WE covered our ping pong table and I still thought that SHE made LOTS of chocolates. Whether or not my childish perspective was correct I dont know for sure - i'll have to ask my mom some time. Anyway, my siblings and I made up a song with all our budding musical talent - you would think we would all be writing music to this day really. Alas, no. It is sung to the tune of joy to the world if you cant tell =)

Joy to the world
the Jarvis's are gone
and all the chocolates are mine
its going to be so yummy
when they get to my tummy
hooray hooray hooray
hooray hooray hooray
joy to the world
the jarvis's are gone

My aunt never really appreciated it for probably rather obvious reasons and informed us that even if they were gone we still wouldnt get the chocolates but we still thought it was hilarious. Please note that we never wished any harm on them - maybe just a long vacation after the chocolates were made =)

There, now you know another wonderful thing about me! The song just kept running through my mind while we were dipping last night and in case Kathy is curious - yes I am definately still a chocolate nazi =).

look what I can do!

There is a slight chance I opened a christmas present early this year but I plan on denying it vehemently. =)

How fun is that? My sister and I spent hours playing and coming up with genius creations and occasionally a big fat - what is that? It was great. I love my sister and her creativity certainly comes in handy when learning about new toys =).

And this I had to share because I got it from my mom and it makes me laugh every time I look at it. If you cant read it look closer! he he he. isnt that great?

We appear to be done all the nastiness here so happiness here has vastly increased and we (melia and I - not vance becasue he has to work in it) are celebrating the first good snow fall of the season! Another fun point is that Amy and i have our first basketball game on monday! You dont all have to come the first week since neither of us have played in a while but after that cheer leaders are welcome =)

Initiation

Now just for the record, I dont generally do laundry on the sabbath - but today I have now done three loads. I expect Brenna was doing at home was Melia was doing in sacrament - that is to say .... umm how does one put it nicely - pukeing her brains out. =) (do you think there should be an 'e' there?) I just thought i would inform anyone who wasnt there or doesnt respond instinctively to the sound of puking. You may have missed my booting it out of sacrament hauling my daughter who left a trail from the pew to the bathroom and covered us both. First load - both of our sunday clothes. 2nd - the blanket which caught the second round. 3rd - her sheets since she peed her bed which she has been in all day (its hard to be annoyed about it when she feels burning hot and cant even walk let alone get on the toilet). Now i must tell you the amazing part which I deserve an award for - while hauling my lovely daughter out and cleaning her and everything else touched by the love I DID NOT embarrass myself by joining her in her lovely activity and am very proud of myself.

There are so many lovely moments I feel are a kind of fun initiations into motherhood - first labour, first dirty diaper, first time you are peed on (boy or girl), first stitches, first broken bone, first artwork of vasaline, first temper tantrum, first puking in sacrament,... the list goes on and on i think. Any other ideas on the fun initiations into motherhood?

Bookworm tag

So Emily tagged me with this bookworm thing where you:

Pick up the nearest book to you, open to page 56, write out the 5th sentence along with the next 2 sentences. THE CLOSEST BOOK, NOT YOUR FAVORITE, OR MOST INTELLECTUAL.

So mine is the ever inspiring Happily Ever After Stories from disney which actually has 303 pages believe it or not!

Here goes: Within minutes, the Genie reappeared. He did a quick fashion show for Jasmine and Aladdin. Do i go for the handsome banker look? Or maybe the preppy golfer thing? Or what about a surfer dude with a 'tude? Which one is best?" the genie asked.

If you want to know more about what the genie chooses or the actual point of the story you have to come over and read it or go buy it yourself - i know you are all dying to know all about the story =)
Lets see who wants to play next? Now im sure Stephanie and Nancy want to because today is thursday and definately Kristen because its currently 4:44. Have fun rationalizing not picking the closest book to you and finding something at least moderately interesting!

from my daddy

I was showing off my wedding book that my awesome mom made me the other day and I read again the song my dad wrote and sang for me for my wedding. I love it and cried again so I figured I would share it:

I STAND AND WATCH AS YOU WALK AWAY
I GUESS I ALWAYS THOUGHT YOU'D STAY MY LITTLE GIRL
BUT EVEN THROUGH THESE MISTY EYES
I CAN STILL RECALL
THAT THIS IS WHAT I WANTED AFTER ALL

I STOOD AND WATCHED AS YOU CAME TO EARTH
A LITTLE GIRL WITH PROMISE IN HER EYES
WITH EYES WIDE OPEN AND DIMPLES WHEN YOU SMILED
THE WONDERS OF THIS LIFE WERE YOURS TO SEEK

I STOOD AND WATCHED AS YOU LEARNED TO READ
AMAZED AT YOUR DETERMINATION EVEN THEN
THROUGH ALL THE YEARS OF BICYCLES AND BASKETBALLS
EVEN THEN I KNEW THAT THIS IS WHAT I WANTED FOR YOU

FROM THE DAY YOU WERE BORN
YOU WERE A FREE AND NOBLE SPIRIT
ALWAYS VALIANT AND TRUE
AND FROM TIME TO TIME YOU'D STAND ALONE
YOU ALWAYS LOOKED LIFE IN THE EYE
LET NO OPPORTUNITY BY

NOW HERE YOU STAND ON THE EDGE OF TIME
THE PROMISE MADE , THE JOURNEY STARTS
AS YOU TAKE HIS HAND THERE'LL BE NO MORE STANDING ALONE
AS YOU START YOUR JOURNEY HOME

AND NOW A WORD OF ADVICE
THROUGH THE YEARS THERE CAN COME SOME DARK DAYS
REMEMBER THEN WHO YOU ARE
AND NEVER, NEVER LET THEM BREAK YOUR SPIRIT
REMEMBER YOU'RE NEVER ALONE
TOGETHER YOU CAN TAKE THEM ON

NOW HERE YOU STAND ON THE EDGE OF TIME
THE PROMISE MADE, THE JOURNEY STARTS
AS YOU TAKE HIS HAND THERE'LL BE NO MORE STANDING ALONE
AS YOU START YOUR JOURNEY HOME

I STAND AND WATCH AS YOU WALK AWAY
I GUESS I ALWAYS THOUGHT YOU'D STAY MY LITTLE GIRL
BUT EVEN AS YOU WALK AWAY I CAN STILL RECALL
THAT WE'LL STILL BE TOGETHER AFTER ALL

FHE and me!

Yay! Family home evening can officially begin now! I know it does't require a board but im still excited to have one that I made. If you are curious if it just looks big in the picture - dont be - it really is MASSIVE! Maybe this will help me remember to have a formal FHE since Melia is old enough now for us to pick up our game.

here is a close up - the ho is not actually intentional but it is funnier after boston pizza =)
here are some poems, for me really, but you can read them =)
the annoying part about this is that in order to make a space here you have to put something in that space so i used one dash for a space and many dashes to separate poems, in case you care!
--------------
sometimes i wish
i walked like you
or talked like you
or dressed the way you do
-
but most times
im happy to be me
-
people know me for me
they know where i come from
they know where i am going
and that i want to stand tall
right here, right now
-
im happy to be young and foolish
i dont mind making mistakes to grow
im happy to learn from the pros
i enjoy the opportunity to watch the everyday heros
im happy to teach your children
i love to see each new moment of understanding
im happy to encounter new skills to develop
i live to create beauty and give compassion
-
sometimes i wish
i was like you
but mostly
i LOVE to be ME!
------------------------------
insecurities
in lower case
because they are
rarely bold
what am i insecure about
you may ask
oh the usual
i like to respond
but i dont let it bother me
-
this is me
i am she
the girl who
dances with everything
dives hard in volleyball
yells because i can
fights hard and forgets
loves people till i cant anymore
prays informally
sarcastic to a tea
scares primary children
is addicted to baking
loves to meet new people
isn't creative but wants to be crafty
treasures my husband
learns tons from watching people
and generally senses other poeple insecurities
i am only insecure
about certain things
around specific people
most of the world
can drool or criticize
and i really dont care =)

there is my love for the day!!

Four foolish fancies

1. Companies who do not deliver to Canada suck. Yes maybe that is negative - but I am bitter! I want my Christmas present NOW - not in six months!!

2. Kyan has finally decided that drinking milk or water out of a sippy cup is preferable to dying of thirst. It has been a battle for the last week or so since he decided to stop nursing and therefore would not drink anything unless it was out of a normal cup - and then only water. Then he would almost drown himself in the normal cup - very stressful.

3. Melia has started to thank daddy for coming to visit our house. Yes, he has been working a lot lately but I still think that is a little harsh. She often informs me that daddy is crying at work because he misses her and he needs some hugs.

4. Loving the snow! Sorry Kathy but Melia has been praying for snow for some time now and she wants to build a snowman - now. We ran outside to play in the little hail/snow dump a couple days ago since it was gentle enough to play in but still fun.

Stolen Creativity!!!

Yup its true I have loved this idea since I first saw it on Joanne's wall and have been plotting and planning for years to create a Randa version of the fun display. She has since moved on to bigger and better things so I feel less like a punk for copying the fabulousness.

Can you guess what the next picture is? The picture does contain some lovely hints...thats right! It is Vance's creation to hold my cans in my food storage. You would be amazed what can be created out of storage crates! He custom built the spaces to hold the cans we use the most and therefore store more of so my storage room is getting closer to being "in order" and totally planned.

Now these pictures, I felt, truly captured the comradarie of my two little angels. (Point of interest - fabulousness is actually a word whereas comradarie is not - at least according to my writing program). Melia loves to hold and maul Kyan while Kyan just loves to be in on whatever she is doing. The entertainment is now beginning to go both ways where they both think the other one is funny - not just both of them laughing at Melia. She is teaching him the lovely art of screeching which I vastly appreciate but its hard not to laugh when he copies her screech and busts up laughing at himself just because it is funny when Melia does it. Melia is such a smart little punk though and is at that point where she will remember and parrot what you say at the most interesting moments. Like announcing in front of my family when she heard Kyan wake up, "umm...(hands on hips) I think that's whineypants". My mom laughed for a good twenty minutes. Then on a drive to calgary when I forgot to give her a requested hug I said I would give her a hug when we got there she propmtly responded "you'd better you little punk ". I dont know where she gets these things!

Now, recently in playgroup they have started putting up lovely signs about following your children around, playing with your children and in general not allowing them the space and opportunity to develop social skills with other children which I think is very important and half the point of coming - the other part being adult conversation. Since Stephanie and I are very obedient mommy's we decided to build a . . . playpen (some people might call it a cage) for our sweet little angels and force them to become friends. Kyan, being the gallant hero that he is, worked very hard to break down the walls of the prison to free the fair Tessa but the evil mommy just kept rebuilding the wall. Eventually due to his heroic determination he won the day and destroyed the evil fortress so the fair Tessa returned to her palace to be pampered and waited on hand and foot like any true princess.

TRICK OR TREAT!

Well we had fun dressing up this year and Melia loved trick or treating after the first few houses. At first she was too shy to say anything but after a couple houses, some candy and lots of dogs she got right into it. The funny thing was running into stephanie's boys trick or treating alone! Now I ask you does she seem like the irresponsible type to let her children run wild like that? I didnt think so but there they were! At least they didnt have Ellison and Tessa. What is the world coming too!! he he he. Okay so she was at the house behind them but for a couple moments I was quite shocked and horrified =).

Here is my little bug all ready for the party:

She wore her other outfit for trick or treating for variety and I was feeling guilty since her tutu was a little short =).

At least Vance was excited eh? I told him he was not allowed to grow his hair out like that and he agreed completely since it kept getting caught in his beard.

And of course the cute couple of the year - Vance was also concerned about Tessa putting the moves on our sweet boy at such a young age!!

ARE WE CUTE OR WHAT!!!!!!

Im sure after all the lovely smiles you have seen on Kyan you are confused about the cute little frown but thats just the way it was going to be - we were lucky it wasn't screaming at that point. Melia on the other hand was a lovely little poser and we got some cute pictures of her and then a few more. =) These are my other two favorites!

So this past weekend was fun because we were able to attend a lovely baptism and the preparedness fair in medicine hat. We flew into the hat after Vance got home to pick up the previously mentioned pictures from sears (much cheaper than canadian baby by the way =) but of course we had to leave our house to do it) and then meandered our way to the stake center for the fair. We were early so we got some great seats but the place was so packed there were about 20 people standing as well and full seats! Im glad it was full cause they did an awesome job and it was a lot of fun. First the people from "in case of" did a quick speil and then there was a little fun play about the starvation of food storage week which Melia loved and enjoyed clapping for and then a ton of taste testing from recipies people made from food storage stuff and different ideas of what to store and how. Very cool except for the chasing melia around - little punk. Then we ran into my lovely aunt and uncle who happen to be in our stake and the offered to take us out for dinner to celebrate the end of food storage week so we happily agreed and had a lovely meal and chat with them. I have some awesome aunts and uncles who all actually live rather close and I quite enjoy talking to them as adults now as opposed to when I thought of them as quite old when I was a kid - so strange how your perceptions change of people as you grow up. Im so grown up!!

thats funny?

So Kyan, I have noticed has a very interesting sense of humor. For instance watching two kids throw things at each other is absolutely hilarious and Melia stealing his toys and yelling out numbers as she throws them is funny enough to pee your pants. Then today at playgroup Lisa pulled a toy dog around in a circle to him and every time it bumped into him he laughed. The other act in his top three of funny is watching the twins pretend to choke themselves. I ask you is this normal? For a boy I suppose - sigh. Who understands these kids? not I!!
What happens at grandma's stays at grandma's right?

Could you imagine if he started to walk at nine months? I already get a ton of comments about how little he is let alone if he was prancing around on his own steam. Oh i guess boys dont prance though right? um how about swagger? is that manly enough?

He is dang cute though even if he is a little whiney and eats nothing but rice cereal and banana!

friends and bugs

SO we had some fun the other day and ended up having two friends for melia over at the same time! She loved it of course and Kyan thought it was great since there was lots going on so there was happiness all around. So you may wonder how well they played together and I will tell you a couple fun moments. First it was just Melia and C M and she loves playing for a little while with cars and such but after he played happily for over 10 minutes with his trains she was done and decided to increase the entertainment level. Now consider the easiest way to get his attention - yup she grabbed his trains and ran. Such a friendly little girl =). Despite her need for his attention they played quite well together. Then C T came while the little man was sleeping so we had some lovely princess dress-up time and then they all played outside and kathy provided the recipie for happiness at that point - can you guess?

one for each of them =)

Much to my entertainment CT can work melia very well. If they disagree she cries and melia gives her anything she wants - it worked every time! But they love eachother =)

Halloween lasts all of october as far as Im concerned. How cute is that!

We tried very had to get the girls to smile but my brother in law suggested they grimace instead and they decided it was a much better idea. One of melia's many skills Im afraid.

Tuesday, October 7, 2008

definately professionals

Yellow leaves and fun colors are here so we went out to see if we could get some fun pictures of the crew - here are the highlights:
barking up the wrong tree of course
perfect smiles on both children - just not for the camera
right before Melia pushed Kyan over into the leaves
which he clearly didnt appreciate and she thought was funny until she got in trouble for it. She thinks its funny every time he falls over when he is trying to sit so he falls sometimes just to make her laugh.
my favorite of course - what leaf?

happy birthday and dancing!

So happy birthday to me! Dont ask me what I am doing in the picture but Melia looks cute. She was loving helping blow out the candles. My favorite is that she has been randomly singing happy birthday to me all week. So Vance got me a slow cooker (yeah!!!!), my zoombini games I have been wanting for a while and a surprise that I dont know about that hasnt arrived yet . He thinks it should have been here two weeks ago and its torturing him to not tell me what it is =).
Im curious but it is really driving him crazy!!

So since we borrowed the twelve dancing princesses from my sister, melia is totally into princesses and is dancing constantly. Every sunday when I ask which dress she wants she picks her princess dress which is of course the biggest puffiest dress she owns. It is super cute but every sunday?

I am beginning to learn about the differences between children. Melia LOVED her swing and lived in it until like seven months - honestly! Kyan prefers to be under the swing if he must have anything to do with it. Melia absolutely loved applesauce and any kind of fruit while Kyan wants his veggies and snubs the fruit entirely. Melia would roll from side to side a bit while Kyan uses rolling to traverse the room and rolls till he hits something. Melia liked to be sung to while Kyan prefers if you make explosive sounds and gun shots - sigh - its a boy!!

So because I am into dance right now and Melia does it constantly i decided to put her in a little dance class for six weeks to see what she thinks. She LOVES LOVES LOVES it. Every day she asks if she gets to go to dance class with kaleesha. She also loves to practice at home and show off her moves for daddy. Lindsay gave me a little tutu her daughter outgrew so melia is loving it and would like to live in it but I still press variety on her.

love this picture and it definately explains why Kyan thinks love is tackling and bear hugs. more on this later..

so i went to dance a bit early in hopes that i could get some fun pictures of her since i let her wear her tutu but she would not even run on my side of the room - but i managed to chase her and get a few fun ones.
Moving on from Melia's new love we will go to Kyan's. Look at the love in that expression!
As previously mentioned mauling is Kyan's understanding of love. We do plan on working on that later but until then Tessa is remarkably tolerant of his interest. =)
