No bake Oatmeal Cookies

Well this is a new step for me with socializing on the internet. I am actually trying to be part of a cookie recipie exchange. We shall see if I manage to actually link correctly =). Here is one of my all time favorite cookies - partly because they are wonderful and partly because I dont have to bake them! We call them No bake oatmeal cookies but I think other people call them haystacks? but I dont put coconut in mine so I dont know if that is strange or not. Here goes:

2 cups sugar
1/3 cup cocoa
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup margarine

1/2 cup peanut butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups oats

In a largish saucepan bring to boil sugar, cocoa, milk and margarine. Boil for 1 min and remove from heat. Then add vanilla, peanut butter and oats (you can use quick oats or umm large normal ones? I like the quick cook ones but my mom votes for the 'real' stuff). Drop by spoonfuls onto wax paper and let them cool as long as your patience allows. Enjoy!

Snow Day

*Warning* this will probably traumatize those who would prefer that Canada stayed about 30 degrees warmer.

So despite being african I really do consider myself the perfect Canadian. I love ALL the seasons. I love that we have four rather distinct seasons and I love having WINTER. I love the variety that it brings, the adventures we get to have and that a bit of snow doesn't send me running for cover. I love being "snowed in" every once and a while on a saturday when a rather agressive storm hits and that we just play inside for the day until we decide it must be the warmest part of the day (still rather nasty cold due to the wind) so we get bundled up as much as possible and take our kids outside to play in what some countries would be - traumatized to even see- kind of weather. I must say though that since we played in our front yard we did get some strange looks for being outside.

How can you not just jam your kid into a thigh high snow drift and take pictures and laugh when they can't move or get out? They loved it!

Im not sure if you have noticed the male tendency to dig holes any time there is snow or sand but Vance gets right into it. And then Kyan wanted to participate.

Once again the hole digging. Vance made three tunnels by the end and Melia crawled through all of them - very proudly.

I had to help Vance out of the snow drift too. He was stuck and I will honestly admit laughing at him while he was trying to get out =)

i think both my kids will be totally into sledding this year. Vance put bungee cords across the sled so Kyan would have something to hold on to cause sledding - even being pulled around - with these kinds of drifts is pretty intense. Kyan did prefer riding since he really can't walk very well in Melia's old snow pants they are really too big for him still. =)

Life is good. It is always changing and new and surprising. Every time you make a plan - things change - despite how good a plan it was. Vance was asked by his work to put school off till next semester so good and bad. Bad he wont get to drive with Sean (sorry Sean it was such a good system), Good I will be able to have him in the hospital when I have this baby, Bad cause it will be even longer before he can finish his degree, Good cause due to replacing tires we need a little more time to be financially ready for school...and so on. You get the picture.

And in conclusion i must truly be strange cause despite the fact that both my parents and Vances are taking off for warmer climates for at least a week this december - Im not jealous and am quite happy to be here. You have to love me anyway though Kimara =)
