Inside recess.

So today is one of those rather chilly days -22 which for Melia means an indoor recess. Anything under -20 means indoor recess in case you are curious. But despite the chill factor - it is BEAUTIFUL!! i LOVE THE WHITE TREES!! The reason she is excited about indoor recess is because I let her buy a present for ONE friend and that means she has to do it secretly so no one feels left out. The funny part is that I suspect since her friend is muslim - they may not actually celebrate Christmas - maybe they just do the Santa part? I am pretty sure no one will be offended though cause her mom let her come to our church Christmas party =).

Side note for my benefit and record keeping. Talia is starting to communicate more and you can actually get she is saying NO, ma, da, mea, her screech means kyan(so much love), jsh and duck. Priorities. =)

The fence that I built - with help!

So we just finished building a new fence on the one side and back of our house due to a little accident backing into the back fence =). Our lovely neighbors have been wanting to replace the side between us so we split the cost and went all out for a vinyl/pvc fence. This seemed very appropriate since everything else we build involves pvc in our house =) I had a great time ripping the old fence down (something I didnt think I could do but quite enjoyed). My pry bar and I are good friends now. I have no idea where the crow bar went (there is a difference between a pry bar and a crow bar apparently - who knew?). Apparently it would have been easier with a crow bar. I will never know cause it was lost pretty much right before I took down the fence. After you put in the posts the tossing in the slats and top and bottom bars was really quite easy and the whole family got in on it the last day.

Talia 'helping' kyan carry this one.

Talia actually helping Kyan carry one.

Talia in her awesome strawberry hat.

They had fun working as a team. What's gonna work? TEAM WORK!!

Its hard to wave and carry a slat at the same time =)

Helping daddy cut the board to the right size...

Love my big helpers!!

And Love my new fence!
I am very proud of it surviving one of the most aggresive wind storms I've seen in a long time.
I was definately keeping tabs on it - just in case!

Funny Family Fun in the Fall

We decided to attempt to take some family pictures again this year and I always find it funny which pictures just make me smile for some reason or another so here are some I enjoyed.

Is it just me or am I rather creepy in this one? A bit too happy...

Im sure you havent noticed but I tend to enjoy the pictures of the back of us - so much easier to coordinate =)

Are you wondering why there are balls in the pictures? It was my attempt at helping Talia be happy in the pictures. Lets just say I tried okay?

She loves rocks. Everywhere.

This was hilarious cause it was not a low tree branch and the kids were really excited to get up there but were then a bit nervous about it. You can see daddy behind them keeping tabs on them =)

It starts..

And thus begins the next chapter of our lives...SCHOOL!!

Her first day was a VERY well anticipated event as she has been looking forward to it for about a year and counting down for the last 6 months.

Ready for her complaints in school?
Recess is too long.
Yes she feels that recess is too long and after discussing a solution to crying until the end of recess we decided that when she got tired she could sit by the school when she needed a break and wait for the bell.
Im pretty much a genius for that solution in case you are curious.
The sad one is her complaint after day three of school.
She doesnt like playing with mean friends.
We had a talk and concluded that friends will probably be the hardest thing about school for her entire school career. Girls are drama unless you find a fantastic friend (I had Heather who was enough like me that we had fun and different enough from me that we had adventures and always something to 'discuss'. Life changing pretty much.) None of her friends she has had growing up are as dedicated of a friend as she is at this point and she will not participate in a group where (quote) "we only play with three friends - no one else can play". ugggh thats all I can say. I am thrilled to report she then walked away from said friend and found someone else to play with but I still wanted to kick that little girl.

Besides her two complaints though she LOVES LOVES LOVES school and is so excited to go! I let her take the bus for the first time the other day and she felt so grown up and independant and mommy just has to let her =).

Sometimes its so hard
to let your little bird
stretch their wings
to leave the nest!
But if I hold her gently
just a little
without holding her back
she will know the power of home.
That way she will know
which way to go
when a hawk comes
for safety and warmth.

And a bit more boating thrown in...

So people often ask me if we have gone anywhere this summer and I smile and say not farther than the lake but really that works for me. I sleep in my bed, keep my house cleanish and we just spend all our 'off work' time at the lake - unless its windy. Then we find something else to do - like build more stuff onto our play set which has already taken over our yard =). The kids have been enjoying boating a lot more this year since we got a new toy exclusively for them. It is for kids to practice and get used to the idea of skiing behind the boat and getting used to being back there on their own. Kyan LOVES it!! He will happily camp out there forever just crusing along stopping traffic at the lake cause they think he is so cute and little.

All day...all night...

HIT IT!!!! (about five times before the boat is even started)

No fear this one! He drags his hand in the water like daddy does when he wakeboards and tries to lean to turn and bounce around. He's gonna be a wild one on the water!

Talia's turn on the 'new toy' as Kyan likes to call it. You can see behind her the only motor she gets to speed with (her daddy).

motor boat motor boat step on the gas!!!

one foot mommy!!

Melia taking pictures - her finger was in most of them but its the only one I have of Vance because I have to drive when he wakeboards - hard to take pictures =). Oh yes you heard it right: I got my boating license!!

Melia's turn! She is much more conservative than Kyan but couldnt get shown up for long by her punk brother. She prefers to do it when just our family (Crosby's are included in that category) are present.

Josh tearing up the wake. He is a machine! He prefers to do a short run first - just to make sure we remember the signs about when to pull him in - and then go for his longer run after he watches for another turn. He then jumps right on and is ready to fly!

Taylor prefers to go a bit slower and Melia was all over that awesome idea! Taylors greatest challenge is the signal to get pulled in. He is very obediant and enthusiastic so instead of the one hand on your head he puts BOTH hands on his head to signal he is done - much to the stress of those of us hoping he does NOT fall in!

Side note: Lisa and I are fantastic tubers! We balance fantastically and manage to hold on through many an agressive beating. Our mildly agressive children LOVE to watch us get thrown off though. A tad bit bloodthirsty!

Most likely what I am saying to my sweet angel is: If you dont stop crying and go to sleep I am going to throw you in the water! Not much of a threat though cause that is exactly where she want to be!

Had to brag about my mom though! She just pops right up on the water skiis even though its been a little while since she has got to practice. Both my Mom and Dad tried wakeboarding even though its not something they have had any experience in. My family doesn't snowboard or anything so its totally foreign for us. My parents are fantastic at trying new stuff and being good sports about it. We did a ton of boating and Vance tried really hard to not flip anyone he shouldn't. He hasn't been in the dog house with my parents since we got married (that we know of) and he doesnt want to start now!

And that is my boating story for today - to be continued this weekend becasue its our ward boating activity. What all wards dont have ward boating activities? Oh. Well then maybe you should move here! =)
